Many Americans, I think, fail to see the connection between communism and the current political landscape. Essentially, communism tries to rectify society’s problems by reforming the system. The system, in other words, becomes the sinner and the one in need of change. Focus in this atheistic worldview is wrongly taken off of the individual. The gospel of repentance from sin and forgiveness in Christ is lost. In the current climate where social justice is being advocated, many may still fail to see this connection, but perhaps they can see the following. Social justice has at its center man. As the center, man wants comfort and therefore wants to improve society so as to be more comfortable. The gospel, however, is not man-centered; rather, it is God-centered. The gospel reveals that God is not pleased and is instead filled with wrath due to the sinfulness of man. In a sense, he is not comfortable because his holiness demands that sin be dealt with. The gospel therefore declares that man should satisfy God by repentance and seek grace through faith in Christ.
